It’s Mirror time! (a take-off on ‘It’s Miller time!’)

Time to take a look back on this blog, time to take a hard look on it right now, too, and it is probably time to ponder the future of it as well. The unexamined life is not worth living (Socrates). Or, more aptly put in this case, the unexamined blog is not worth writing.

And so, with that brief exercise in navel gazing being NOW over, I am going to take a break. I am off the air. No mo’ blog! I may start up again in 2022 but maybe not.

Oh, God! What am I going to do? No blog OTG? Is this the beginning of TEOTWAWKI? Is this how it all ends?!”

No, dear readers, this is NOT the end of the world as you know it. Right now, it is just a ‘break’. I am on hiatus. Sabbatical. Vacation. I am going fallow. Well, more to the point: I am actually fallow. I have no burning issues right now – at least no issues that I have not already repeated ad nauseum.

Economics in 2022 might bring me back for a bit of ranting….we’ll see. And, as a sticky note, I am inclined-but-reluctant to try and write something in defense of men and their natural but less-than-PC tendencies. I have an issue with allegations destroying people, too. But, like I said, I have over-spent myself on my usual topics and I am not yet ready to ‘take on’ the topic of defending men’s societal behaviours (a daunting task, to be sure).

For those of you who might want to stay in touch, please do so by email. If you do not have my email address, just leave a comment on this blog and I will send my email to you. Or Sally’s. It is perfectly OK to prefer Sal’s email to mine. I do.

In closing – and that has not yet happened – I wish you all the best this season, a fabulous New Year and, of course, I really hope you all survive the apocalypse scheduled for later this century. No, really. All of you….seriously……

  1. Well there’s a bit of a sad note to go with the grey, rain and howling wind. I truly look forward to my rides along with Dave. Dave’s of a feather and all I suppose…
I was going to say if it was due to numbers keep going as one should write for one’s self first and foremost but everyone needs a break from time to time. A chance for the well to top up again. An opportunity to focus on other tasks, bigger jobs, complex issues, or the couch. It is after all the writer’s Life, to be as S/He sees fit or feels. You will be much missed. It is ALWAYS a joy and an immediate necessity to dig in to your posts as soon as they are noticed, tho replies tend to have to wait, if at all. Who could say it better than JDC? Not I, but the ride is a doddle, of ‘interesting’.
Take good care man, but keep out from under Her Highness’s feet or you will have trouble! Hope to see of you soon, as soon as YOU wish! And “Thank YOU!”
Be Well and safe. My best to Sal too.
    Cheers David! UpNorth D.

  4. A break will be good, as long as not too long. You, however, need to write. It is your leisure particularly in the short dark days of winter. I expect your love of writing will get you back online no later than January 2. Besides, you created a following. Now you have an obligation to your public. I’m confident you will be back.
Best wishes to you both. Write, with pictures, about how a boat reliant OTGer spends Christmas.

  6. I have a hard time creating content for the Powell River Books blog since it is so hard to get back and forth across the border these days. I can understand the need to take a break when it is hard to find something you want to write about. I haven’t been as good a blog reader these days either. I’ll check back in next year to see if anything has changed. All the best to you and Sal. – Margy

    • Scratch the itch? I dunno…..I think I’ll mull, stew and contemplate the USA, the world, my navel and Netflix instead. And everything is frozen solid right now. Smidge harsh. The forecast said ‘above freezing’ until it wasn’t and then, “Oooops….watch out! Surprise cold snap.” So, I can see some plumbing repairs in my future and, further, some major upgrades. We have a 10-20 knot breeze out of the inlets and the ‘chill’ is more like -8C. Damn, damn.

      • Welcome to the BIG Chill JD!
And here’s Me without an insulated or sealed main floor as yet. Still, it’s not so bad. And the Forest looks AMAZING in its white WINTER finery. A considerable change from last year, when there was little, very little, snow. I don’t mind a WINTER tho. Being from big, bad TORONTO, this is more like it. I even thought I could (might?) snowboard down the hill if the snow gets any deeper, and it is raging out there as I type this, sooo … We’ll see. Besides, I’ve never been to CR Hospital as yet, and one does wish to experience ALL Life has to offer and Experience!!!πŸ˜²πŸ˜³πŸ˜‰πŸ€©πŸ˜Ž

  7. Happy New Beer Dave and Sal.
Things are starting to warm up a bit after the last few weeks of snaow and zero temps.

Put another log in the stove and crack another book.

    • Well, typically it was a nice candle-light dinner, wine, flowers, chocolates, a little sweet-talking and then a bit of light exercise followed by a good night’s sleep. However, we now have puppies. So, it is puppies, feed ’em, poop ’em and then calm ’em down….followed by sleep, blessed sleep (both them and us). Romance kinda shifted to the dogs. Let is hope for the sake of my will-to-live that they mature quickly.

    • Sal said, “Oh! How sweet. What a lovely message and so soon, too. John knows my birthday?” For the record. I already said it so I was first. Nyah, nyah. Sal got up at 1:00 am to ‘pee’ the pups and I mumbled ‘Happy Birthday’ as I rolled over and stole more bed space. But you are way ahead of our kids!
