Hypocrisy, thy name is GOP

I said I was bored with US politics and that is a good thing, really. Boring is good. Politics should be boring, uneventful, administration that just keeps the trains and buses running.

Biden and gang are doing rather well and, compared to the former guy, exceptionally well. I know Trump is still a topic but, well, not for me, not right now. I am tired of the fool. However, today some news on that side of Congress shocked me. I did not think it was possible to do that anymore with Trump and the Maggots. But it did.

Heather Cox Richardson is an historian and blogger. She has been a news source for me. She recently commented on Biden’s debt reduction plan for student debt. Student debt in the US is a huge issue (as it is here). It seems the debt relief program implemented by Biden is getting a lot of flack and pushback from the Republicans. That kind of idiocy is to be expected from the GOP but the following hyper-hypocrisy blew my mind.

A bit of background info to bring you up to speed: The Paycheck Protection Program (PPP) is a $953-billion business loan program established by the US government during the Trump administration in 2020 through the CARES Act to help certain businesses, self-employed workers, sole proprietors, certain nonprofit organizations, and tribal businesses to continue paying their workers during Covid.

Heather Cox Richardson reported: Criticising Biden’s student relief plan, Representative Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA) said: “For our government just to say ok your debt is completely forgiven.. it’s completely unfair.” Greene had $183,504 in PPP loans forgiven.

Representative Vern Buchanan (R-FL) said: “Biden’s reckless, unilateral student loan giveaway is unfair to the 87 percent of Americans without student loan debt and those who played by the rules.” Buchanan had more than $2.3 million in PPP loans forgiven.

Representative Markwayne Mullin (R-OK) said: “We do not need farmers and ranchers, small business owners, and teachers in Oklahoma paying the debts of Ivy League lawyers and doctors across the U.S.” Mullin had more than $1.4 million in PPP loans forgiven.

Representative Kevin Hern (R-OK) said: “To recap, in the last two weeks, the ‘Party of the People’ has supercharged the IRS to go after working-class Americans, raised their taxes, and forced them to pay for other people’s college degrees.” Hern had more than $1 million in PPP loans forgiven and that statement is NOT true.

Representative Mike Kelly (R-PA) said: “Asking plumbers and carpenters to pay off the loans of Wall Street advisors and lawyers isn’t just unfair. It’s also bad policy.” Kelly had $987,237 in PPP loans forgiven.

Representative Matt Gaetz (R-FL): ….” Gaetz had $482,321 in PPP loans forgiven.

For the record, Gaetz and MTG have never worked a day in their life.

I should not be surprised. But I was. Corruption, crime, lying, sexual shenanigans and treason on the so-called CONSERVATIVE side of politics is consistent and constant. The biggest hypocrites and liars are always CONSERVATIVES. Well, CONSERVATIVES and Christian fundamentalists of the evangelical Swaggart and Baker type. It is unbelievable.

Yeah, I know….a political rant…..sorry

    • ‘Sad’ hardly covers it but, yes, it is sad, ugly, corrupt and, well, I could go on and on. I cannot fathom how any one could ever vote Conservative in any of their variations. It seems they are all scum. Do NOT get me wrong…..some good people self describe as being conservative-minded. And I get that. They hate nose-rings or whatever….but how does a conservative, fundamental, Christian, family-oriented, boy-scout, law-abiding good (but dull) person VOTE for a bunch of crooks simply because the crooks BRANDED themselves with that name? Does conservative minded also mean STUPID?

  1. The world (politics) is sliding down faster and faster to the point of no return !maybe we are already past that point). The average electricity and heating bill in Europe has been multiplied by 5 to 10. Where in average people paid bills of around 200€/month, they are now facing bills of 1000 to 1500€/month (which for some people is almost their monthly salary) and prices are still breaking new records every day
What did our prime minister responded to that : “we probably will face another 5 to 10 very difficult years, but WE will manage and a s a country we will survive”….I wonder who “WE” is?
maybe it is not only conservative that means stupid, maybe it is politicians in general

    • History has proven that the ‘people’ do NOT revolt until they get hungry. ACTUALLY hungry! They do not revolt when they are cheated, disrespected, robbed or even physically abused. They might complain but they do not revolt. But I am wondering if heating and electricity (in the modern age) will prove to be the equivalent of food? Depriving the modern person of electricity is like depriving the serfs of the middle ages their allotment of wheat. And, anyway, they are pricing food to the point that the populace might actually get hungry! One thing is for sure: the US/NATO just upped the ante and are backing Ukraine even more. That is one step closer to war with Russia. Why? I think it is the heat and light issue threatening Europe. Someone better try to broker the peace or at least assassinate Putin pretty soon or WW3 gets a lot closer.

  2. These people aren’t “Conservatives”.
    They are “Corruptives”.

    Trump lowered the bar.
All these people slithered under it.

    • I agree. Being conservative (small ‘c’) and voting Conservative (large ‘C’) are totally different things but why do the small ‘c’s people get confused over that? What is so bloody hard about knowing the difference? The bad guys just purloined a ‘good’ name and millions fall for that?! Should I start a political party with the name Good Unselfish Saints (GUS) and use my dog’s mug as a logo and everyone will vote for whatever group of dissolutes I choose to join me? Damn, one thing is very likely, a lot of dog lovers would follow! How can we all be so stupid to vote-based-entirely-on-a-brand-name?

I vote against the idiot incumbent.
I think that is the state of our politics these days.
        You aren’t voting FOR someone.
You’re voting AGAINST the unpalatable choice offered.
Hillary Clinton was a disastrous choice for the 1st Trump election.
WAYYYY too much Clinton baggage for people to hold their nose and vote for her as Prez.
And after two terms with Obamas unfulfilled promises…
        Trump won by default.
        A sad state of affairs
Biden was barely any better but Trump proved to 50.01% of the voters that he’s a Grifter.
A scheming grifter that BS’d his way into the Presidency.
If Trump tries to run again.
The Republicans have some serious work ahead to boot him out before the entire country implodes.

Are we have nothing to be smug about.
Our choices in the next Federal election will be an intellectually stunted, manic, silver spoon fed incumbent who is more concerned about his fashion sense that fixing real problems( Health Care vs the endlessly promised but never delivered National Daycare ring a bell?)…..against an attack dog career politician that has never been in charge of anything.
It will be a nasty , vicious election that alienate even more voters…leaving us with a angry, polarized voting blocks which won’t accept even a large majority govt forming Parliament.

I still feel as if I HAVE TO vote if only to choose the least offensive one. I swear the problem is the party system. AND corporate donations. Put those two forces together and they beget corruption.

          • Unfortunately if YOU ran and were elected.
Your honesty and straight forward talk would have you either muzzled or booted from any Party you had joined.
Such is the revolting Parliamentary process.
Where a defeated vote means….another election.,
My ideas to clean the “swamp”.?

            1. I would suggest we start with banning financial contributions over $500
Get Big Money ( business, unions, charities, religious groups, on and on and on) OUT of the political process.
No more cash-o-la which demands favours.

            2. Two terms. For everyone. Mayors, Premiers, Prime Ministers, MP’s, MLA’s….
            Two terms…then you are out.

            3. No pensions. (No voting to give yourself a raise.) You are out after two terms. Get a life elsewhere.

            4. If you are caught taking bribes or using influence for financial gain..
5 years in prison with Bubba as your cell mate.

A small start but it would clean out the greedy, the lazy, the stupid and the dishonest.

P.S. Free votes on ALL budgetary decisions.
Any expenditure that exceeds the annual budget and causes a deficit must be voted on by ALL Canadians in a referendum.
I am sick and tired of Political “Leaders” spewing billions of MY tax dollars on THEIR favourite “causes”.
Trudeau with his smug condescending platitudes announcing “$10 billion here and 20 billion there.”
We are destroying the financial future for generations to come as he waltzes off into the sunset with his gold plated pension and 24/7 security.
Criminal doesnt even begin to describe it.

          • Agree. 100% except the five years part….that would be cruel and unusual punishment for Bubba. The politician crook can get five years, I guess, but we swap out an old Bubba for a new one every year. In that way, no one gets a broken heart.
